Owner, director, and teacher Kamilah Simba-Torres is a graduate of Reedley H.S. and the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific where she received her B.A. in music education. After teaching 10 years in the public school system, she officially opened her own music school, Simba School of Music, focussing on the Suzuki Method. K.C. studied the Suzuki Method as child and studied with Suzuki trainers Cathy Lee, Sandra Payton, and Joseph Kaminsky. Her book training started in 1994 with Cathy Lee and she continued her studies of the Suzuki pedagogy with Judy Bossuat-Gallic, Joseph Kaminsky, Edmund Sprunger and Linda Fiore. K.C. runs her private studio at her school with over 40 private students and 30 years of teaching experience. Her students have been selected through audition to play with honor orchestras at Carnegie, Sydney Opera House, National Honor Orchestras, San Francisco Conservatory of Music pre-collegiate programs and are consistently placed in concertmaster and principle chairs in county and state honor orchestras. Together, her studio family performs throughout the Central Valley as well as in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
K.C. has sat principal 2nd violin with the Sequoia Symphony for over 20 years and plays professionally through the Central Valley. She is also the owner of Arpeggio Strings which specializes in booking live musicians for weddings and events. K.C. is a violin coach and is on the board of directors for the Youth Orchestras of Fresno and is a member of American String Teachers of America, California Music Educators Association and the Fresno/Madera County Music Educators Association. She resides in Fresno with her husband and her two children.
Boris Nixon is a local cellist with a long list of achievements. He currently teaches in his own private studio in Oakhurst Ca. as well as the Simba School of Music. He also performs regularly with numerous groups in the area including The Sequoia Symphony were he occupies the assistant principle position on cello. Holly Harrison has honed her music teaching skills throughout the state of California. She is a graduate of UC Davis, Sacramento State, and Longy School of Music of Bard College where she participated in their innovative teaching credential and Master's degree program, focusing on social justice in music education in Los Angeles. She is a primary general music teacher and string specialist for Fresno Unified. Holly maintained a private studio in Sacramento of over 40 students for 8 years and has more than a decade of teaching experience.
Holly has her M.M. in viola performance from Sacramento State University where she studied with Anna Kruger, founding violist of the Lark Quartet. As a freelance violist she has performed with the North State Symphony Orchestra, Townshend Opera Players, Fresno Grand Opera, Sequoia Symphony Orchestra, and the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra among other ensembles.
Holly has a background in Suzuki pedagogy and has Suzuki teacher training through book 4. Her teaching style is infused with the warm, inclusive, mastery-oriented philosophy of Suzuki education whether she is in the private studio or in front of a class of second graders.
Holly is a Fresno native and attended Manchester GATE, Computech, and Edison. She is pleased to give back to the Fresno music community both in the public schools and in her new violin and viola studio at Simba School of Music.
